A polemical booklet in Hebrew and German written by Rabbi Berachya Schuck, rabbi of the Avit Arta community in Timisoara. It attempts to justify his father, Rabbi Shlomo Zvi Schuck, Av Beit Din of Kortzog, Hungary, against attacks printed by the Rabbi of Mod (Rabbi Mordechai Leib Winkler) in his book Shut Levushei Mordechai. Seems to be the only edition, Sespala 1912. [1], 8 pages. New binding, light stains, overall good condition.
Rabbi Shlomo Zvi ben Natan Shuck (called the Rashban) (1844-1916) was the rabbi of the Kortzog community in Hungary. He demonstrated independent views and was considered a moderate and open Orthodox rabbi (an unusual figure in the Hungarian landscape), which drew criticism from some of the Hungarian rabbis such as the Rabbi of Mod, who even wrote this criticism down in his book Levushei Mordechai. This booklet was written by his son to defend his father against the insult. Rav Schuck published many rabbinical works, articles in Hebrew, German, and Yiddish journals. His works include “Siddur haRashban: A New Commentary”, “Sefer Shut Rashban”, and more.
