Lot 028:
First edition of the Kli Yakar commentary on the First Prophets—Yehoshua, Shoftim, Shmuel, and Melachim. By Rabbi Shmuel Laniado. Stefanski Yesod 26.
Printed during the author’s lifetime. Rav Laniado cites the commentators who preceded him, with the addition of a great deal of content: “one who finds this book in his possession, it is as if he possesses a house filled with books” (language on the title page).
The indices of the book have around 15 very long handwritten notes in an antique Mizrahi script. The content is droshim and chiddushim on the verses from the Prophets, and chiddushim on the words of the Kli Yakar. It is clear that the notes’ author was a great talmid chacham, but we have no way of ascertaining his identity. Mizrahi signature of ownership on the title page, unreadable.
[1], 3-564 leaves, bound in three separate volumes. Joshua, Judges, Samuel, Kings. Heavy worming damage, mainly in the margins, wear to a number of leaves, this copy requires some repairs.
