Lot 243:
Marriage certificate written entirely by hand and signed by the Chassidic gaon Rabbi Yaakov Landau of Bnei Brak. Iyar 1955. Features the signature of the rabbi, as well as the official stamp on the picture of the certificate holder.
14x22cm. Filing holes, good condition.
Rabbi Yaakov Landau (1893-1986) was a student of the Rashab of Lubavitch. He was a gaon who began serving in the rabbinate from the age of 20, when he began to serve as successor to his father in Kornitz, but he became most famous as the Rabbi of Bnei Brak for 50 years, from 1936 until he passed away in 1986. He managed the city’s affairs with a proficient hand, and was especially known for his stringency on the issue of kashrut, because of which many great rabbis would only get “Rabbi Landau” approved food.
