Lot 133:
Sefer Mekor Chaim, novellae and elucidations on Hilchot Pesach, by the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Loberbaum of Lisa author of the Chavat Daat, Netivot Mishpat and more.
Bibliographic mystery!
According to the title page, it was printed in Dhyrenfurth; at the end, however, the craftsmen involved in the printing are mentioned and they are all from Polonne, which caused varied bibliographers to list it as the place of printing. The year of printing listed in the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book is 1817, based on the detail "ד’ יראני נפלאות מתורתו". In this copy, however, another letter is bolded "ויראני…" implying the year 1823. Anyhow, the book was published in the author’s lifetime. In addition, two unlisted leaves were added to the pagination (40, [2] leaves) which do not appear in the scanned copy of the National Library containing Kuntres Acharon by the publisher Rabbi Leibush Roke’ach. We did not find similar copies and this one remains a mystery. Possibly, it is a variant or a copy of an unknown edition.
Mostly bluish paper. Moth damage and stains. Fair-good overall condition.
On the title page and last page, a fine calligraphic signature: אהרן משקלאב החונה פה ק"ק שאט יצ"ו" and on the last page, with a variation: "החונה פה ק"ק גאלדינגען יצ"ו". In addition, his Hebrew and foreign stamps – Rabbi Aharon Elkan Av Beit Din of Goldingen, Latvia who was a disciple of the Gaon Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin.
On the title page and inside the book, stamps of Rabbi Reuven Yitzchak Ilian, author of Sdei Yitzchak who was a Moreg Tzeddek in Riga.
In addition, two handwritten comments inside the book.
