Auction 72
Lot 58:
Sefer Torah handwritten by an expert scribe on bright vellum, Wallisch Ashkenazic script, Beit Yosef custom, matching the script of Ashkenaz (Germany/ France) mid-19th century. Fine, uniform script. Height of vellum: 52 cm. Height of script: 41 cm. 48 lines. Rolled on two fine wooden poles. Small varied blemishes. Partly faded. Is not sold as Kosher.
Impressive Tagim!
In the verse "פסל לך שני לוחות אבנים…" and additional verses, the Hebrew letter פ is Lefufah (winding). The Tagim were made by an expert and sometimes, the Metayeg/scribe joined the Tagim of two letters to form a peacock spreading its feathers. In Shirat Hazinu and elsewhere, he put two stories of Tagim – see pictures. Undoubtedly, the most special of these is the verse of Yaakov’s blessing to Yosef: בנות צעדה עלי שור" where he put on the letter ש a branched set of Tagim requiring special spaces in surrounding lines – see picture.
