Auction 72
Lot 56:
Megillat Ester, scribal script on vellum, fine, uniform Ashkenazic Beit Yosef script throughout.
30 lines. Height of script: 22 cm. Height of vellum: 27.5 cm. Corrections and faded letters. Is not sold as Kosher.
Very interesting: the writing follows the Kabbalistic tradition (usually seen in Chassidic megillot) of emphasizing holy names. As is known, holy names are not written in the Megillah; in this version, letters of some verses, which form the Holy Name, are emphasized by writing them in larger script. Regarding the bolding of holy names, see the Siddur Geonim VeHaMekubalim [Rabbi Moshe Yair Weinstock, Jerusalem 1881, Volume 17].
