Lot 116:
Sefer Kol Tze’akat Haro’im – against the book קול התחנה קול הטחנה (Kol Hatachana Kol Hatachana) – by Rabbi Eliyahu Ben Gigi – single edition Tunis, 1915.
Background: in the early 20th century, with the invention of the steam engine, Jews in Africa began using millstones operated by steam. Some leading rabbis forbade using such millstones, fearing they could not be cleaned properly. On the other hand, there were many rabbis who rendered the millstone kosher. The controversy was heated, both parties publishing books to support their claims. Among the rabbis who forbade using the millstones was Rabbi Chaim Yosef Maman, who, in 1912, published the book קול התחנה קול הטחנה, describing at length the reasons for forbidding to use the millstones. Against this book, Rabbi Eliyahu Ben Gigi published this book, Kol Tze”akat Haroim, rendering them kosher.
Appearing on the title page of the book is a dedication handwritten by the author: "הרב הכולל כמוהר"ר אברהם הלוי פאלינסי נר"ו … אלג’יר יע"א"
[2], 265 leaves.
Moth perforations to the margins. Good condition.
