The author, Rabbi Avraham Zvi Brodna (1850-1936) was a leading contemporary rav of Chabad. He received his Hora’ah Semicha by Rabbi Yitzchak Elchanan Spektor and was a Chassid of the Admor the Tzemach Tzedek of Lubavitch.
On verso of the binding, a notation: "נתן דוד חנו…? מווארשא".
