Lot 79:
Sefer Shut Beit Yisrael, on the four parts of the Shulchan Aruch, by the Gaon Rabbi Yisrael Avraham Alter Landau Av Beit Din of Edelin and the vicinity, the son of the Gaon Rabbi Shalom Dayan and Moreh Tzeddek of Velove. Rabbeinu the author was the son-in-law of Rabbi Yeshayale Steiner of Krestir.
One and only!
This copy is extremely rare and is the only one known to bibliographers. It is not in the National Library or the catalogs of listed libraries and this copy is the one on which the Bibliography of the Hebrew Book based its record of the details of the book. The year of printing appears there as optional – 1942 (based on the publisher’s foreword in the following edition, Buenos Aires, 1954) and the leaves as they appear here 2-121 leaves without the title page. Only the section of Orach Chaim and some of the section of Yoreh Deah were printed. Apparently, the author himself dealt with the publishing of the book (as indicated by him in Siman 20 from 1941: "שאני טרוד כעת בסידור הדפסת ספר שו"ת שלי להכינם לבית הדפוס…") and published it as was customary then, sheet by sheet. Due to World War II, he did not manage to print the title page. This copy survived with his leading disciple Rabbi Aharon Meir Kruaz (see below) and apparently, it is the only one that survived.
Dedication by the leading disciple
Appearing on the first leaf is a dedication by the author’s disciple, Rabbi Aharon Meir Kruaz, who writes: "הרי זה ספרי דבי מר מכ"ק אדמו"ר הגאוה"ק זי"ע, בכי יותן לכבוד הרב הג’ החכם השלם וכו’ פראפעססער מהו’ אברהם נ"צ [נפתלי צבי] ד"ר ראטה שליט"א. יום ה’ לס’ ויגש שנתשט"ו [תשט"ו – 1955] … שאפראן יצ"ו, מתהמ"ח [מתלמיד המחבר] אהרן מאיר קרויז" and his stamp. On the last leaf, the disicple wrote: "חבל על דאבדין".
At the beginning of this volume, several leaves were added from the 1954 edition including the title page and the foreword of the publisher, the author’s son-in-law, Rabbi Shalom Krauz who was the grandson of the Menuchat Asher and of the Imrtei Shefer of Dorag.
New binding. Fine wide margins. Very good condition.
