A letter on an airletter, in the handwriting and with the signature of Rabbi Shmuel Shapiro. The letter is dated 24th Cheshvan 1959 and addressed to Rabbi Raphael Shimshon Weiss. In the letter the tazadikoffers a blessing: "May he be successful in everything he does…and see much pleasure from all his descendants out of wealth and honor…" | Rabbi Shmuel Shapiro [1913-1989] one of the foremost rabbis of the Breslov Chassidut. Born in Jerusalem to the Shapiro family, a pedigree non-chassidic family (his maternal grandfather was Rabbi Shmuel Hominer, his uncles were Rabbi Zvi Pesach Frank and Rabbi Aryeh Levin). He studied in the Etz Chaim under Rabbi IsserZalman Meltzer. Rabbi Meltzer admired him and used to stand up in his honor. Rabbi Shmuel Horowitz, one of the leaders of Breslov Chassidut in Jerusalem, drew him close to Breslov Chassidut until he himself became one of the leaders of Breslov. Among his disciples: Rabbi Yaaacov Meir Shechter. He abstained from all pleasures of this world and dedicated all his time to Torah and prayer. He would walk along the street with closed eyes to avoid seeing forbid sights. The Rebbe the "Beit Yisrael" of Gur said that "Rabbi Shmuel’s protection of his eyes saves and protects the entire generation". | Fold marks.
