Lot 46:
Thick volume with works by the Gaon the Chassid Rabbi Eliyahu of Vilna. Inside the copy, appearing several times is stamps of "נטע צבי ווייס יליד ירושלם עה"ק" with an illustration of Jerusalem, indicating the copy was owned by the Maggid Rabbi Note Zvi Weiss – Rabbi Note Maggid (1873-1918), a famed Maggid of Jerusalem, a disciple of the Maharil Diskin and a confidante of the Aderet. The book Nitei Chemed is based on his sermons and writings. The owner bound HaGra’s books in an impressive leather binding. He also wrote his glosses on the margins of the sheets. Naturally, many of them deal with comparisons to HaGra’s customs and words elsewhere.
Following is the list of books as they appear in the volume:
1. Two sections of Siddur HaGra "Banigleh Uvanistar, Banigleh: Ma’asseh Rav and Likutei Dinim. Banistar: Siddur and Likutei HaGra… Sha’ar Naftali and Imrei Shefer". First edition – Jerusalem, section I: 1895 section II: 1898. [5], 164; [2], 160 leaves. In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library. Each section has a title page and half-title. In section I, the half-title is blue with red lettering. The title page itself is with gilt headings. On the first title page of section II "Sefer Shenot Eliyahu on Mishnayot Masechet Shabbat". Approbations (in section I) by the Maharil Diskin, Rabbi Meir Berlin and Rabbi Bezalel Hacohen of Vilna.
2. Masechet Avot with HaGra’s commentary and the Ru’ach Chaim commentary by his disciple Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin. With Mitzpeh Yehoshua and Ma’aynei Yehoshua. Published by Rabbi Eliyahu, HaGra’s grandson. Second edition – Jerusalem, 1903. 17, 40, 12 leaves. The 12 last leaves contain Maggid Tzeddek and Ingeret HaGra.
3. Megillat Ester with HaGra’s commentary. At its end, elucidations by Rabbi Avraham, HaGra’s son and by Rabbi David Luria, the Radal. And a wonderful commentary on Birkat Yotzer Or by Rabbi Avraham. The Press of Meir Yechiel Holter – Warsaw, 1887. According to the records: 68 pp. Here: 52 pp. only.
4. Passover Haggadah with two commentaries by HaGra and HaGra’s Dinim and customs and the Maggid Tzeddek commentary by Rabbi Pinchas Maggid Meisharim of Plock. Published by Rabbi Eliyahu, HaGra’s grandson – Jerusalem, 1903. [1], 30 leaves. In the Rare Book Collection of the National Library. (Possibly, a facsimile edition from later than 1994 – Brooklyn).
5. Sefer Si’ach Eliezer, new elucidation on Hoshanot, Selichot and Yotzrot by Rabbi Avraham, HaGra’s son by Rabbi Eliezer Zalman Grayevsky – Jerusalem, 1996. Blue half-title. [2], 131 leaves.
6. Sefer Tehillim with the Be’er Avraham commentary by Rabbi Avraham, HaGra’s son "introducing his father’s commentary on some Psalms and many verses". On Pslams 119, a commentary by Rabbi Matityahu Hayitzhari, which, based on the title page, was published only once in the past – the Press of Meir Yechiel Atler – Warsaw, 1887. 138 [i.e. 142], [1], 28-34 leaves.
Fine, impressive leather binding with gilt embossments. Marks of usage, mainly to the Siddur. Minor stains. Bookmarks. Good overall condition.
