A volume of the Babylonian Talmud, tractates: Zevachim (title page is detached and blemished in the margins), Bechorot, Menachot, with a separate title page for each tractate. Vienna, 1796. In tractate Zevachim is a signature in the handwriting of Rabbi Moshe Navameste-Hamburger, a disciple of the Chatam Sofer, and there are also comments in the book in his handwriting. Rabbi Moshe HaLevi Hamburger (1901-1988). A holy and Godfearing man, a genius and a diligent scholar, born in Navamseste. One of the Chatam Sofer’s students in Pressburg. The Chatam Sofer was accustomed to refer to his students by the names of their cities, and he referred to him as Moshe Navameste, a name which Rabbi Moshe used until the end of his life. He therefore changed his name to “Moshe Segal Navameste” [the wording of his signature]. He studied in his Rabbi’s yeshiva and was among those with a close relationship with the Chatam Sofer for over twenty years. In 1857 he immigrated to Jerusalem and was one of the founders of “Kollel Shomrei HaChomot – For Hungarian Immigrants”. For more information about him refer to the book “HaChatam Sofer V’Talmidav, pages 354-357. Binding is partially detached, a few moth holes, water stains and stains. Mold marks in the bottom part. Good-fair overall condition.
