Regarding the holiness of the Chatam Sofer’s handwriting: It is accepted in the name of Rabbi Mordechai Bennett of Nicklasburg, a friend and colleague of the Chatam Sofer, that he would review the halachic tshuvot of the Chatam Sofer a number of times, not because he didn’t understand, but because looking at the handwriting of the sage is a segula for yirat shamayim. Also mentioned by Rabbi Yoel of Satmar and Rabbi Yosef Naftali Stern.
