Letter on official letterhead from Purim of 1945, handwritten and signed by the Gaon Rabbi Isser Zalman Melzer, addressed to the “famous Rahag…Yehoshua Heschel Ferbstein, president of the Jerusalem Va’ad Kehilla”, in which the rabbi writes effusively with thanks for the latter’s support of Rabbi Yitzhak David Rosenstein for the needs of his chronically ill son: “I hope therefore that Hashem grant him the zechut for this great mitzvah to continue to help this talmid chacham…”. He signs at the end with a wish for a long life and a seva tova. Size: 14x21cm. Filing holes.

Rabbi Isser Zalman Melzer (the Even HaAzal) (1870-1954) was the rabbi of Slotzk, head of the Council of Torah Sages in Israel and the head of the Etz Haim yeshiva in Jerusalem. He wrote the Even HaAzal on the Rambam, read widely across the Jewish people.
