Each copy has an important note of ownership: “Moshe Finkel” and often the additional “of Chelm.” Rabbi Moshe Finkel of Chelm (1883-1926) was the son of Rabbi Natan Zvi Finkel (the Saba of Slobodka), and son-in-law of Rabbi Moshe Mordechai Epstein the Rosh Yeshiva of the Slobodka yeshiva. He was a Ram at the Slobodka yeshiva and Hevron. He studied at Mir under Rabbi Eliezer Gordon and Rabbi Eliyahu Baruch Kamay, and in Brisk under Rabbi Haim Soloveitchik. He travelled to Radin for a time to the Chafetz Haim’s yeshiva. The Ohr Sameach of Dvinsk said of him that he was the Ketzot HaChoshen of the next generation.
