Volume with books by the Maharal: Netivot Olam (two sections, a separate title page for each section) – a basic Mussar book on the Midot – Warsaw, 1884. 77; 71 leaves. Be’er HaGolah – elucidation on Mamarim and Aggadot of the Sages – Warsaw, 1887. 44 leaves. The original front board was preserved and re-covered due to notations on its verso [see below]. Minor professional restorations to the first title page. To one leaf, worn edges and some tears. To the last leaf, taping affecting the text. Stains and considerable signs of usage, indicating it was well studied.
On the title page of Netivot Olam and the title page of Drush al HaTorah, two handwritten signatures of the Gaon Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach. On the first title page, a touching addition handwritten by him: "פניך האר בעבדיך". On verso of the title page, handwritten lists of all the Netivim of Netivot Olam and some corrections inside the book.
The Gaon Kabbalist Rabbi Chaim Yehuda Leib Auerbach (1887-1954) was the father of the Gaon Posek Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, and the 7th generation from the Admor Rabbi Yaakov Yosef of Polna, a disciple of the Baal Shem Tov. He received his Rabbinic Semicha by Rabbi Chaim Berlin at the age of 18, and in 1906 he founded the Shaar HaShamayim Kabbalistic yeshiva, even though he was less than 20 years old when it was established.
