Chemed Moshe on Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim by Rabbi Gedalya Moshe ben Zvi Hirsch of Loshitz. First edition – Furth, 1769. [1], 118, 18 leaves. Stefansky Sifrei Yesod, the additions p. 63. Original binding with laces, blemished with moth damage. Some of the headings are cut. Moth damage. Stains and other blemishes. Good overall condition.
Pedigreed copy. On the title page of the book, a notation in faded script: "שייך להרב הגאון הגדול חריף ובקי מו"ה אברהם משה אב"ד פילא חתן הרב המאה"ג [המאור הגדול] מו"ה עקיבא איגר אב"ד ק"ק מארקיש פ"ל [פרידלנד]" and his stamp "א’ משה מליסא". on leaf 2, his handwritten signature in square script.
The Gaon Rabbi Avraham Moshe Kalischer, Rav of Pila (ca. 1780-1812) was born in Lisa to Rabbi Yehuda Leib Kalischer, author of Hayad Hachazakah and a descendant of Ba’al HaLevushim. Was the son-in-law of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, who revered him as well as many other of his family members.
Rabbi Eliezer Lipman Ravitch greatly praised him in a letter to Rabbi Akiva Eiger: "תקצר היריעה מהכיל מרב העונג ונחת שיש לנו מאת כבוד חתנו הרב המאור הגדול שי’ יש לו שם גדול מאד כללו של דברא הוא גבר בכולא ואמת הדבר שמענו עליו והוספנו לראות".
Rabbi Avraham Moshe passed away young and his widow, the Rebbetzin Surel married Rabbeinu Moshe Sofer, the Chatam Sofer.
