Lot 64:
"וידעתי את הה"ג הנ"ל כי לא יחת מפני כל – ודבריו עזים… וטוב לפני האלקים ימלט מהתעקש בזה – וה’ יהיה עמך"
Letter about a controversy regarding a Gett Pasul handwritten and signed by Maran Rabbi Naftali Zvi Yehuda Berlin, the Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin to his son Rabbi Chaim Berlin Av Beis Din of Moscow, with an addition by his daughter the Rebbetzin Dreisel, Rabbi Raphael Shapira’s wife – Volozhin, 1873.
"דרך כלל אם גדול בתורה ומפולפל מבקש עצות להטיל פגמים בג"פ ולקלקל מוצא דרך מפולש לפניו – אם בצדק אם לא בצדק" The affair began with a husband who would not give his wife a Gett, escaping to Moscow. Rabbi Chaim Berlin, Av Beis Din of Moscow, stepped in and convinced the husband to give the Gett for a large sum of money. Rabbeinu made an effort to bring the Agunah to Moscow with the money and receive the Gett by the husband. Immediately after giving the Gett, the husband received a Psak Halacha from one of the leading rabbis of the generation invalidating the Gett for several reasons including problems with the name of the Agunah that was written on the Gett, much to the disapproval of Rabbi Chaim who had made tremendous efforts to bring an end to the affair. In this letter, Rabbeinu the Natziv agrees with his son that the Gett should be rendered Kosher, yet advises him to try and receive a new Gett from the husband "וגם אם תעבור על מדתך- ותדבר רכות את הרב הנ"ל כיד חכמת הלשון הטובה עליך – תטיב את לבו לקחת לב הבעל להגיע לידי גמר בא"א ממה שנגמר עד כה".
"השי"ת זאל זיין חסד ווייטער ניט אפטאן פון אונז אלעם (ה’ לא יעזוב את חסדו מכולנו)"
Beneath the Natziv’s signature, his daughter, Rebbetzin Dreisel, the wife of Rabbi Raphael Shapira the Rosh Yeshiva of Volozhin, wrote a letter to her brother Rabbi Chaim, sending her regards and recalling the happenings of her family.
