Lot 114:
Wonderful artistic painting depicting the Admor Rabbi Yisrael Hopstein (the Avodas Yisrael, also called the Maggid of Kozhnitz, a student of Rabbi Elimelech of Luzhansk), sitting in his sukkah wearing a kittel and wrapped in his tallis, with chassidim looking at him with fervency. Next to him stands the gabbay holding the lulav after the Rabbi waved it, as he continues to hold the etrog with the pitam according to the Chassidic minhag. There is also a boy dressed after the fashion of the Admor’s grandchildren, wearing a ‘spodik’ as in Kozhnitz and the Polish hatzer. Original work made as an homage to the portrait of the Maggid in an old, known portrait of the Admor wearing his tallis. Signed Nathan Cooper. Size: 100x109cm. Framed: 128x118cm. Light defects to the frame, overall very good condition.
Natan Cooper is a well-known Jewish artist, whose works are exhibited and highly considered in Israel and abroad. He frequently depicts famous portraits from the religious-Charedi world and many paintings of the Old City of Jerusalem, as well as mixing modern art and classic conservative styles.
