Buyer's premium:

Set of four volumes, the Mishneh Torah/Yad Chazaka of the Rambam, with the commentaries Maggid Mishnah, Kesef Mishnah, Lehem Mishnah, and Mishnah LaMelech and more. Printed in Dihrenport. 4 sections in four volumes: 1. Part 1: 1809. 2. Part 2: 1810. 3. Part 3: 1811. 4. Part 4: 1814. Each volume has two title pages, the first has a woodcut engraving with Moshe and Aharon—parts 2 and 3 only have the second title page. Antique bindings, some detached, the leather spines have been eaten up; stains and defects, faded yellow page cuttings, overall good condition—complete set (not checked thoroughly).

Antique notes of ownership on the title pages. There is a signature: “I bought…Naftali Kara of Srem” – Rabbi Naftali Karo (1789-1874?) was a descendant of the Beit Yosef (see Otzer Rabbanim 16139). He was a student of Rabbi Akiva Eiger, whose tshuvot to him appear in Shut Rabbi Akiva Eiger and the Drosh v’Chuddish. In 1840 (approx.) he was accepted into the rabbinate of Srem, in the Poznan district. His son was Rabbi Zvi Kara, Av Beit Din of Livoy (Lithuania). The first volume has a number of long handwritten notes. There are also many corrections, it seems that the owner of the copy cared about this work and took care to note all the printing errors. At the end of the first volume are 3 handwritten pages with geometric and physics shapes related to the laws of kiddush hachodesh, shabbat, and the sukkah. They were done with great precision and are organized in tables. Very good for studying. The identity of the artist is unknown, but it was owned by Rabbi Naftali Kara so he is a possibility.
