Lot 349:
Written in German by hand and signed by the Rashar Hirsch. Rav Shimshon Refael Hirsch, 1846. Regarding the appointment of a deputy for the rabbinate of Rav Hirsch, during the period when he was Chief Rabbi of Spiekeroog. This period was his second rabbinical period. On 7th of Cheshvan, 1841, he was crowned Chief Rabbi of Ostfriesland, in Hannover, and his rabbinate was based in Amadin. He was only 34 years old then. His rabbinate controlled an additional 10 communities. The letter before us is from August 5, 1846, written in Spiekeroog, regarding the appointment of a teacher for the community, Rabbi Dr. Lipman, to also be the Unter Rebbiner, the deputy of the Rav on issues of the community. With his signature, he notes his position as Rabbi of the Region. While the letter was also sent to the heads of the government, the Rav wrote at the top in Hebrew—B”H. In 1847 he was chosen as Rabbi of Niklasburg, and then he, as is known, became rabbi of Frankfurt-am-Mein. The delivery address, stamps of the mail on the outside of the letter, and an additional stamp are blurred. Remains of a wax stamp. Generally very good condition.
