Long letter and three postcards handwritten and signed by the Admor of Spinka Kahane, sent to Rav Shmuel Aharon Shatzdarovsky on a variety of subjects, including New Year’s greetings, help with one of the Admor’s sons, an invitation to a bar mitzvah for a grandson of the Admor, and a request regarding the military service of the Admor’s son, the Admor of Spinka Kahane. The Admor Rabbi Nachman Kahane of Spinka (1905-1977) was the son of Admor Rabbi Zvi Hirsch Kahane hy”d, son-in-law of his uncle Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael the Admor of Solitzia. He served as rabbi of Carlsberg. After being saved from the Shoah, he served as dayan of Kloizenburg and dealt with freeing agunot. He moved to Israel, was rabi of Bnei Ram, and then moved to Bnei Brak, opened a Beit Midrash, and served as Admor of Spinka.Rabbi Shmuel Aharon Shatzdarovitzky (1907-1978) was the son of Rabbi Meir Shalom, the Admor of Kovrin-Bialystock, who was the son-in-law of Rabbi Menachem Nachum Epstein, founder of the Chassidic dynasty. Rabbi Shmuel Aharon married the daughter of Rabbi Pinchas Issachar, the Admor of Pinchov Sosnowitz. As a young avrech he was appointed secretary of the Agudat Yisrael in Vilna, and was close to Rabbi Haim Ozer Grodzinsky. During World War II he managed to escape and reached Israel in 1943. He is not as well known as he ought to be, given how active he was during the Shoah and after to save and rehabilitate survivors.
