Letter on official letterhead, written and signed by Rabbi Doctor Menachem Frankel of Roman, from Kislev 1947. Sent to Rabbi Moshe Babad, Avdak of Gora-Homora. A gripping document which sheds light on rabbinical activity during that period. Rabbi Frankel first is effusive with praise for the recipient, and then states: “Allow me to request that the Rav will solve the situation which has come before me…” and then describes the situation involving a young girl from the Goldstein family, who came to a marriage arrangement through a handshake with a boy Gedalya Goldschmidt, “and since he was a groom with nothing they gave him 1900000 as a dowry, and he began to profit and earn more and more, and some time later he became attracted to another woman, the daughter of Mr. Geller of Gora-Homora, even though the brother of the first woman, who lived there, warned him that he continue the relationship with her, but he is nevertheless going ahead with trying to marry the second woman, and the first woman from the Goldstein family is crying out and depressed over the terrible deed done to her. So I am requesting from the Rav that he invite the referred to man and prove to him his misdeed and regarding the 600000 left over from her dowry, and that he must refrain from doing a kiddushin since it cannot take place given the woman’s grief, and I found it necessary to tell the Rav all this so he would know how to act and I leave it in his hands.” Bears his official stamp. 21x26cm, folding creases, light stains, generally good condition.
