Letter from Thursday, 4th Day of the 10 Days of Repentance [Tishrei], 1947, Botshan. The rabbi blesses the recipient “with thanks for your blessing for the New Year, I wish you as well, may you be stamped in the book of tzaddikim for a happy, light-filled year, and all good things.” He ends by referencing another matter, “regarding his question I don’t know, and maybe I heard that …” and ends with a signing off by name. Written on the backside of a typewritten letter in a local language. Size 15x19cm. Light stains, folding creases, generally good condition.

The author, Rabbi Dov Beer Burnstein of Botoshan, wrote the Chochmah v’Mussar (1892-1974), was the son of Rabbi Yehiel Michal and son-in-law of Rabbi Meshulam Feivush Miasi son of Rabbi Yaakov Yitzhak. He was a rabbi in Botoshan, dayan in Tel Aviv in 1958. He authored many articles in Maggid—Satmar 1928.

The recipient of the letter Rabbi Menachem Mendel Babad, rabbi of Gora-Homoroloy (Bukovina). A descendent of Rabbi Yosef Babad, the Minchas Chinuch, appointed over Chassidei Chortkov, known as a great talmid chacham who was in regular correspondence with greats of his generation. Died in 1930.
