Deep pilpulim and svaras by the Gaon Rabbi Aryeh Leib ben Rabbi Asher of Metz. 103 pages (206 sides). Old binding is partially detached, cover partially detached, tear along the width of one page without missing text, light stains, generally good condition. Back of the bindings are filled with various notes, some in the local language. Cover has the stamp: “belongs to Bahamad Ashkenazi Dafa S. A. Ohali and no one may remove from here.” Signatures: “Yitzhak Rotenberg” in a few places. Cover has a long dedication with mention of the name “Yaakov Soloveitchik” on the back of the cover, with an interesting signature: “Zvi Hersch Meizlish” (see below). Body of the book, p. 31, has among the lines a signature: “Shimon Yaakov Waller Sharpman Charaz.” Page 44 has signature: “Avraham Sockwald.” Back of the rear binding has “Yitzhak Sockwald.” Notes in the local language throughout the book. Body of the book has notes and corrections in pen and pencil, some significant.

The signature is probably that of Rabbi Zvi Hersch Meizlish (1902-1974), a descendent of the Yismach Moshe. He was son of Rabbi David Dov Meizlish, rabbi of Ohel. He was a rabbi in Galicia and Hungary, survived the Shoah, and afterwards was a rabbi in the DP camps and then in Chicago. Authored the Shut book “Mikdashei Hashem” about the Shoah, and more. He became famous for his rabbinate in Weizen (Was). He was appointed to the rabbinate by Rabbi Meir Arik and Rabbi Mordechai Yehuda Winkler. This copy appears as well in the Ashkenazi synagogue of Ohel with a stamp—as mentioned, the place of his birth, which strengthens the claim that this copy belonged to the rabbi himself.
