A long Hebrew and German poem (on facing pages) in honor of the wedding of the Crown Prince Alexander II Nikolaevitch from 1841. The son is composed with a chorus throughout “Alexander to Miriam, whom he will accompany as the grape to the vine”. Composed by Avraham Dov bar Levinson (see below), and translated by Zeev Wolf Tugenholt. Four title pages in different languages: Hebrew, German, Russian, and German. There is also a yellow jacket cover in Hebrew and German. At the end is a “prayer said by the Jews in their houses of prayer that day” with an additional title page. [5], 31 pages. New binding, gold inscribed, stains, generally good condition.
The poet Avraham Dov ben Haim (Adam HaKohen, 1792-1879) was also a commentator and grammarian. He was a teacher at the rabbinical beit midrash in Vilna and wrote “Shir Havivim” in honor of Rosen Tishkevitz, and Klil Yofi for Alexander the II. He published the translation of Moses Mendelsohn’s work. He had a great influence on writers of his generation.
