$100 bill given by the Rebbe. On the back is the inscription: “From the Admor shlita, Shaul Shimon Deutsch”. There is also a long inscription in English telling the story of the dollar (see below). Overall good condition.

Zichronotav shel HaRayatz (Memories of the Rayatz) was published in two sections. The first was published in a series of articles printed in the newspaper “Der Morgen Journal”, under the heading “Lubavitcher Rabbins Zichronot” (1941-1942). The second was published in the “Amerikaner” (1952-1953). They were subsequently published in books.

Rabbi Shaul Shimon Deutsch (the dollar’s recipient) tells that in 1975 he met Rabbi Meckler in Flatbush, and heard from him that an additional series of articles had been published earlier when the Rayatz was visiting America in 1930. They had been published in “Der Morgen Journal” under the heading “Fun Lubavitcher Rabbins Hauf”. Rabbi Shaul Shimon hurried to notify the Rebbe, who ordered him to look for the articles.

After a few years of searching Rabbi Deutsch managed to find all of the issues in microfilm in the Jewish section of the Municipal Library in New York.

In gratitude and to cover his expenses, the Rebbe gave him this $100 bill as a present. The Zichronot were later published under the editorial oversight of Rabbi Deutsch and titled “HaZichronot, Part 3”, published by Kehat in 1994.

The item is accompanied by a certificate from Rabbi Deutsch in which he explains the whole story in detail.
