Lot 072:
US dollar coin, minted 1972, diameter 4cm.
Given by the Rebbe during Channukah, as gelt for a chassid.
Receiver: Rabbi Zvi Eliyahu Malov (1951-2021), s a Chabad activist in Jerusalem, and Chassidic researcher. Born in 1951 to Rabbi Menachem Yisrael Malov and Marat Chana Batsheva. He studied at the Tomchei Temimim yeshiva in Lod and in 1968 was sent with a group of students to strengthen the Kiryat Gat branch of the yeshiva.
He married Marat Hena Chaya, daughter of Rabbi Yaakov Moshe Halperin. After his father passed away, he inherited management of the Gemach run by his father, and focused on supporting needy brides. At the height of his activity, he could help 400 families per year.
He received letters of encouragement and blessings from the Rebbe all his life. He also took part intensively in a mezuzah drive, spreading the importance of the mitzvah and to check mezuzot and tefillin, and he checked tefillin in more than 1500 families. He also researched and wrote on Chassidic biographies, the pinnacle of which was the work “Chabad Leaders and their Contemporaries”, which he wrote when he was studying at the Kiryat Gat TT yeshiva.
