Pshatim and drashot on the Torah and holidays, by the Admor Rabbi David bar Mordechai Tversky of Talna. Zhitomir, printed by the Shapira brothers, grandsons of the Rebbe from Slavita. First edition. (4) 143 pages. There are copies with an additional dust jacket (Stefanski Chassidut 101). Nice copy in good condition. Defects and light stains. Simple binding.

1. “Mishnayot” seder Taharot, with commentary of Rabbeinu Ovadia of Bartenura, and the ikar of tosafot Yom Tov, and additions and glosses. Zhitomir Shapira 1863. 206 page. 2 cover pages, light defects on the first pages, not bound, pocket-sized 19cm. 2. “Tikkun Leil Shavuot,” copy is missing the beginning and the end, before us is page 3-160. Zhitomir 1864, page numbering in the complete copy is 168 pages. The condition of the pages changes, some in ok condition, others in bad; the majority is ok, lots of moth damage. Not bound. 3. Chumash of Deuteronomy, with commentary of the Or HaHayyim, and the rest of the commentaries, with prayers. Copy is missing the beginning, the copy before us is from page 1 until 183 (the end is complete) and the order of prayers from 1-10 (missing the end). Generally good condition, not bound, stains and wear.

7 volumes of the Gemara, Talmud Bavli, Zhitomir printing—the Shapira brothers, grandsons of the Rav of Slavita. 1. Eruvin, 1862. 2 cover pages in red ink. 2. Masechet Yevamot, 3 cover pages (!) the first (dust jacket) with green ink. Rare. 3. Baba Metziya, 1859, 2 cover pages, 1 in red ink, first pages are in awful condition. 4. Holin, Zhitomir, 1860, 2 cover pages. 5. Sanhedrin, 1859, 3 cover pages. First is a dust jacket in yellow, 2 with red ink. 6. Composed by the Tana Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. Zhitomir, printed by Rabbis Hanina Lifa and Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel Shapira, grandsons of the Rav of Slavita. Endorsement of Rabbi Aharon of Chernobyl. 182 pages, nice copy in good condition. Binding has been restored. The cover page is cut slightly in the frame from wear, without damage to the text. Light stains.

“Eshlei Ravravi,” Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De’ah, Slavita, printed by Rav Moshe Shapira, 1822—endorsement of the Ohev Yisrael from Apta.

Includes the Shulchan Aruch on the subject of tools, with all of the commentaries combined with the book Pri Magadim (without page numbers for Pri Magadim), printed by Rav Moshe Shapira of Slavita. With endorsements of Rav Avraham Yehoshua Heschel of Apta, the “Ohev Yisrael,” Rav Mordechai Margaliot, and dayanim of Berdichov, with engraving of the printer opposite the cover page. Complete copy, original leather binding with frame. Cover and first pages have defects in the margins and moth damage. Binding and first pages are loose, the rest is in generally good condition with some moth marks. Most of the pages are green/light blue pages. Size 38cm.

Ohalei Yosef, Jerusalem, Bak printing, 1868—first edition. Rare.

Laws of kedushat Hashem, halachot tahara, tzedaka, and the vineyard. The book is constructed with the psakei halacha in the middle, to the side is Mar’ei Mekomot, the bottom has a comprehensive, wide exegesis. By the Gaon Rav eliyahu Yosef Rivlin. At the start of the book are endorsements of rabbis of Jerusalem, Rav Meir Auerbach and Rav Hai Yedidya Refael Abulafiya. At the end of the book is the recommendation of the printer, with the summary of the content of the book. Jerusalem, printed by Rav Yisrael Bak. (4) 68, 34 page. (S. HaLevi 138). Signature of ownership in Ashkenazi handwriting on the cover page—Aharon Yehoshua. Good condition, anterior binding is loose.

“Shevet Mussar” Jerusalem 1863.

Chapters of mussar by the Gaon Rabbi Eliyahu HaKohen of Izmir; at the beginning of the first section are 2 cover pages, an abbreviated one and a detailed one. Printed by Yehiel Bril, Michal HaKohen and Yoel Moshe Baharam [Salomon]. On the other side of the first cover page is an engraving of a stag and the writing “A stag [tzvi] she is for all nations.” The second section has a special cover page, with a drawing of a printing press and the writing “with praise, a new printing in Zion is ready.” On the other side are endorsements from sages of Jerusalem. (2) 130 page. (S. HaLevi 85). First cover page has defect, pages are loose. Generally good condition, a few bits of moth damage.

“Sha’arei Tzedek”—also called Sha’ar HaHatzer, printed by Yisrael Bak, Jerusalem 1862

Book full of droshim and chiddushim on the Holy Land, by Gaon Rabbi David ben Shimon, known as the Dvash (Ra’avad for the Western Eida in Jerusalem, 1824-1880). Printed by Yisrael Bak, including the pamphlet of indices called “Ulam HaSha’ar,” 203, 28 page, good condition (S. HaLevi 72). When it was published, the sages of Israel blessed the author for imparting his knowledge. See more of the author in his book “Matzor Dvash.” Excellent condition, light stains in the binding, there are a number of handwritten glosses, light defect on one of the pages.

All of the prayers of the Shalosh Regalim and the order of Kriyei Mo’ed for the seventh night of Pesach and the night of Shavuot. Printed by Moshe and Yehudit (the Minister Moses Montefiore). First section: (5) 4-20, 25-97, 62, 41-68 page. 2 cover pages, one abbreviated, the other detailed. (S. HaLevi 20). 5 last pages have been added from another copy. Everything in good condition. Lot of 2 important books from Jerusalem, “Toldot Yaakov” of the Maharikash, Jerusalem 1865, first edition, printed by Yisrael Bak.

Long method of analyzing Masechet Beitza, chiddushim on the construction of the page, by the Ma’or HaGadol, Rav Yaakov Castro, printed by Yisrael Bak in Jerusalem. The publisher writes at the start “this is a book by a great man…for close to 300 years no one has seen this…” only edition, (4) 96 page, 21cm. The Maharikash was one of the well-known rabbis of Egypt, compiler of the book “Erech Lehem,” and “Ohalei Yaakov,” when he lived in Tzfat he stayed with Maran the Beit Yosef. Excellent condition, bound with the book of Rambam’s commentary on masechet Rosh Hashanah, with a short commentary by Rav Dov Be’er Ravin, Jerusalem 1887, printed by Rav Shmuel HaLevi Tzukerman. Pages loose. Good condition.

“Darchei Ish” with “Ish Tz’air,” the first book printed by Nissan Bak in Jerusalem, 1875—with royal stamp of the Rishon LeZiyyon, Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi. Rare.

Drashot for the holidays, special times, and eulogies, by Rav Nissim Shmuel Yehuda Arwitz, with “Ish Tza’ir,” drashot by Rav Yosef Refael Uziel, father of the Rishon LeZiyyon, Ben Ziyyon Hai Uziel. The well-known printer Rav Yisrael Bak died in the middle of printing this book, in the introduction his son, Rav Nissan Bak writes of his father’s passing and his printing house (an interesting and historical introduction). The book was printed with the support of Moshe Montefiore and his wife, Yehudit. (2) 118, (1) 29 page. At the start of the book is the endorsement of the Rishon LeZiyyon Rabbi Avraham Ashkenazi (he and the compiler were sons-in-law of the Maggid HaYerushalmi HaZaken, Rabbi Yitzhak Prachi). Signed with the personal stamp of the Rishon LeZiyyon, written in Hebrew, English, and Arabic. Generally good condition, moth damage, original binding. (S. HaLevi 230). Important and rare book.
