Karaite mezuzah, Israel-Egypt. Beginning of the 20th century.
Made of metal, with the Ten Commandments. The Karaites don’t have to put a mezuzah up at the entrance to their homes and rooms—according to their interpretation, the verses from Deuteronomy that mention mezuzot are a general commandment to study, to remember, and to repeat the Torah. At the same time, next to public houses and a few residences, they would put a tin board in the shape of the Tablets but without inscriptions. Height: 6.5x7cm approx..
